I will call this post Chelan #1 as there could be more Chelan posts, possibly many more! From 1977 through 1987, I was a seasonal wilderness ranger working for the Chelan Ranger District on the Wenatchee National Forest. While there were a variety of projects including prescribed burning, fire fighting, timber stand improvement, much of the time between May thru September (or later) I was on the trail. The standard was 10 day backpacks either in the northeastern quarter of the Glacier Peak Wilderness or the Chelan backcountry – and after 1984 – the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness. During my time off, I explored other areas.
This is a starter gallery of some of my scanned Kodachrome slides from scrambling around these hills. We’ll see where it goes from here!

Yours is a fantastic legacy of work in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. I absolutely love your photography. Thank you, too, for joining Nick with his many geology episodes. Your vast knowledge and insight adds so much to an already great experience. So much so that I spent two weeks in the Cascades last year just trying to see some of it myself. You are an inspiration. I’d love to get a couple of canvas prints!

Hi Mark, and thank you for your kind words! It has been an unexpected, and delightful, ride for me tagging along with Nick on so many geologic explorations over the past several years. In fact, just back from a couple days with Nick and videographer Brady filming in the Columbia River gorge.
My WordPress site has not been attended to for several years and I happened to find a note in my email that I had a comment on it. It took a while for me to figure out how to get back into my account and find your note! I would be happy to figure out a way to get you some canvas prints – probably through shutterfly. If you could contact me on e-mail garyjpaull@gmail.com we can figure out what you might want and how to get it to you. I have many photos posted on Facebook and also Instagram, if you are on either of those, send me a friend request and I’ll respond. Thanks again for contacting me!
